About - What are role-playing games?
Tabletop role-playing games (or RPG’s) provide a rich environment for group storytelling. Players adopt a role of an imaginary character living in a created setting, often fantastic or perhaps just outside their everyday world. Together with their team of fellow players and guided by a referee (or games master), they explore strange environments, encounter a diverse range of characters and creatures, and face challenges of all kinds on order to achieve a pre-determined heroic goal. In addition to providing the participants hours of creativity and enjoyment, skills and techniques in role-playing have been developed over thousands of years. Theatre and performance disciplines across the world have explored the human condition through the use of role-play and performance, thrilling audiences and some of the most memorable stories in human history. Today, role-playing techniques and games are now well-documented as educational tools for learning, critical thinking, compassion, and team bonding. Organisations are finding the value of implementing role-playing scenarios to develop their individuals and teams, through therapy, training, and exemplify the value of collaboration to achieve their goals and vision.

About - Behind Role Play Experience: Games Master Ian Zammit
Ian is a professional Games Master for Role Playing Games, and has a passion for connecting people through stories and the use of play to better our society. He has played and refereed role-playing games for over thirty years, including major campaigns of Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun, and Low Fantasy Gaming. Through Role Play Experience he has partnered with Penrith City Library and Headspace to facilitate introductory games of Dungeons and Dragons for young people, and has run introductory games for new players of all ages through Collector Con Penrith and Campbelltown. Ian has also facilitated workshops for corporate clients, including Storytelling modules at the heart of Bija Yoga teacher training and Leadership through Performance Skills for the teachers of Grace Village Early Learning Centre. Ian has current Working With Children certification and Public Liability Insurance coverage for role-playing game, performance and workshop activities. Ian’s background is in performing arts practice, management and education: awarded a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Drama & Theatre Studies from Middlesex University (U.K.), and certification in Training & Assessment in Adult Education from CBD College in Sydney, Australia. Ian was co-founder and director of Emu Heights Theatre Company, providing live performances of plays on the HSC English curriculum and engaging 5,000+ students over 5 years from the Western Sydney region and beyond. He was proud to take on the role of Theatre Programs Coordinator for Q Theatre and the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in his home town of Penrith, delivering a range of educational theatre making workshops and activities to children aged 5-18, people living with disability, and seniors. He continues theatre work as the Front of House Manager of Rooty Hill’s Sydney Coliseum Theatre. Ian’s activities champion the creative and collaborative concepts and values that Role Play Experiences provides: that group storytelling can change people, businesses, and society, for the better.

An introduction for families or groups of teenagers to the creativity and fun of role-playing experiences! Perfect to share with a group of friends or for families to have a one-of-a-kind shared story-telling experience. Book a single “one-shot” workshop to introduce the game as part of a birthday party surprise, or book a short series of sessions so they can immerse themselves in the role-playing experience over several weeks. Available for groups of teenagers aged 13 and up, and group sizes of 3-6. Role Play Experience: Teens & Families Package Groups booking a Teens & Families Package receive: Either a 2-5 hour introductory role-playing game session of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, OR a mini-campaign series of adventure to introduce characters and build a story together over 5 sessions A Character Pack to keep, including a character sheet, pencil, eraser, and notebook. Role Play Experience - Adults & Teens D&D at Penrith City Library
What a year for #roleplayexperience at Penrith City Libraries! It’s been sincerely gratifying to bring #roleplayinggames and #dungeonsanddragons to our community from 2018-2026. Last year the Library team worked with #RPX to run a fun mini-campaign in support of #Pride month for adults over June-July, and this year we ran a sold out series of sessions for teens aged 12-16 in Term 1, teaching the rules and basics of the tabletop Role Playing Game experience to Adults long interested in the activity; including a special One-Shot in June to celebrate Pride month and bring the community together. Role Play Experience - Partner Highlight: Bija Yoga
Bija Yoga brings connection and life to Western Sydney’s community through its ethos, its words, and its practice. I am delighted to work with founder Keith Kempis and the teachers of the studio to bring the power of story to its members through Role Play Experience’s activities. I have been deeply grateful over the years to hvae been invited to lead the Storytelling workshops in support of four groups of Bija Yoga teacher trainees. The workshop engages new yoga teachers with the basic elements of the story template, The Hero’s Journey, that can be applied to their understanding of the narrative within The Bhagavad Gita. The workshop also provided techniques to help teachers recognise that they - and their students - are the Heroes of their own journey, and to apply the lessons when nurturing students in their own classes. It is a blessing to take part in the growth of Bija Yoga’s teachers, in addition to the many activities the studio offers its members and the wider community.
